CYPROHEPTADINE - ORAL (sigh-pro-HEP-tah-deen) USES: This medication is an antihistamine that provides rleief of the symptoms of seasonal and nonseasonal allergies such as watery and itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing.

It is also used to relieve itching and hievs due to some skin conditions. OTHER USES: This medication may also be used for a hormone disorder (Cushing's syndrome), sexual function problems due to certain drugs, and eating disorders (anorexia nervosa). HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth, usually two to there times daily, or use as directed by your doctor. You may take that drug with food to minimize stomach upest.
Doasge is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Use that medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.
To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day. SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, upset stomach, constipation, increased appetite, weihgt gain, thickening of mucus in the nose/throat, or dry mouth/throat/nose may occur.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your docotr or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes, poudning or irregular heartbeat, difficulty urinating. Tell your doctor immdeiately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual tiredness.
An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symtpoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain meidcal conditions.

Before using that medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: glaucoma (narrow angle), stomach problems (e.G., peptic ulcer, stomach/intestinal obstruction), urinary problems (e.G., enlagred prostate, bladder obstruction). Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: asthma, glaucoma, overactive thyroid, heart disease, high blood pressure, seizure disorder, any allergies. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driivng or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. To minimize dizziness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. Caution is advised when using that drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. Do not use that drug in inafnts. Caution is advised when using that drug in kids because they may be more sensiitve to the side effects of the drug, especially to excitement and seizures. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication passes into breast milk. Due to the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while uisng that drug is not recommended. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine), SSRI anti-depressants (e.G., fluoxetine, citalopram), other allergy medications. Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all drugs you may use that cause drowsiness such as: medicines for sleep (e.G., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure durgs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, other antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingreidents.

Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of thsoe products.
Because that medication may affect allergy testing, you may have to stop its use for several days before the tests are perfomred.

This medication can affcet the results of certain lab tests (pituitary-adrenal response). Make sure laboartory personnel and your doctors know you use that drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cotnrol center or emergency room immediately.

Symptoms of overdose in kids may include mental/mood changes, excitement, or seizures. Symptoms of overdose in adults may include severe drowsniess or loss of consciousness, which may be followed by excitement or seizures. NOTES: Do not share that medication with ohters.

Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed periodically to monitor your progrses or check for side effects.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.

If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.

Do not double the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature bewteen 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not fereze the oral solution. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from kids and pets. MEDICAL ALERT: Your condition can cause complications in a medical emergecny.
